Easy German Chocolate Cake Recipe. Mix the cake mix, buttermilk, oil, eggs and vanilla in a large mixing bowl on low speed for one minute until combined. For the Cake: Stir together sugar, flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt in large bowl.
Spray the bottom of the cake pans with cooking spray, this is so the parchment paper sticks to the pans. Mix all ingredients in large mixing bowl. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix to combine.
In a separate bowl combine the eggs, buttermilk, oil and vanilla and mix well.
Make the cake: Whisk the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and espresso powder (if using) together in a large bowl.
Once you are done with the baking of the sponge, spread the coconut-pecan frosting between the layers, on the top, and the sides of your cake. Cool in pans for ten minutes, then remove from pans and cool completely on a wire rack. Add eggs, buttermilk, warm water, oil, and vanilla.
